If you are new to the world of caravans and motorhome you’d be forgiven for getting a little flustered over what to buy. The two are worlds apart in some ways but similar in others so knowing whether you are better suited to a caravan or a motorhome can be very tricky to work out if you don’t know the benefits of both.
Luckily for you we’ve given you a rundown of the best bits of each, to help you make a sound decision.
Caravans
So, caravans, they’ve got a bit of stick over recent years but we think they’re pretty good, and you must do to if you’re considering buying one.
If you buy a caravan you will have to tow it whenever you need to move it – this means have the appropriate sized family car which corresponds to the weight restrictions and guidelines for your chosen caravan. If you have a very small car you may find towing a caravan to be a little tricky if you go for one that sleeps more than two people.
Caravans come in all sizes and vary greatly between each model – there are thousands of caravan brands out there, so check out our reviews section to get a rundown on what each one offers.
Storing caravans can be quite a bit easier than storing a motorhome and they tend to be smaller, plus they detach from your car so you’d be able to store it with relative ease on a driveway.
In terms of travelling with a caravan and learning to manoeuvre it and pitch it, this does take a little skill as there is no mechanical function in the caravan so you’d have to be able to control its movements by steering your car – of course after a little bit of practice this can be done with relative ease.
Motorhomes
If you don’t fancy the idea of having to attach and tow a caravan every time you want to travel somewhere, then a motorhome might be a better choice for you.
Motorhomes come with a cab at the front which is basically like a car – so the living section is permanently attached to it. This is brilliant in terms of ease of use and travelling, however, motorhomes tend to be a fair bit more expensive than a caravan as you are effectively buying a vehicle as well as a holiday home.
Motorhomes do tend to be a little more spacious than caravans, which is fantastic if you have a larger family or envisage going away with your friends – however this can make storing the vehicle a little trickier as you would need to have ample space on your driveway to hold it.
More information on both caravans and motorhomes can be found on the caravavselecta website as well as information on where to buy your chosen vehicle.
